Robert E. Green founded Magrabar in 1981 with the goal of becoming the preeminent manufacturer of antifoams and defoamers. Together with Dan Sampson, they brought together a wide range of experience and expertise in antifoams and other specialty chemicals. Following an initial period during which the company's products were manufactured on a toll-manufacturing basis, the company started operations in one unit at our current location.
During Mr. Green's tenure, we expanded our manufacturing facility three times and increased production and storage capacity significantly in order to serve a rapidly expanding customer base.
Mr. Green started Magrabar late in his life and was exceptionally proud of the successful business he had created. Following his death in early 2003, his daughters Sue Jenkins and Sandy Roy assumed responsibility for the Company. They were determined not just to continue the business, but to build on the strong foundations he had laid over the first 22 years.
Sue and Sandy took definitive action to restructure every element of Magrabar, instituting new management systems to reenergize the company and its employees, reinvigorate our performance, and drive new growth.
One key to this growth is that Sue and Sandy focused our efforts on improving our food chemicals business. To accomplish this, we improved all of our operating procedures and developed a Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Point (HACCP) plan using FDA guidelines. This plan and our other quality and security systems continue to be audited on an annual basis by both a third party firm and in our customers' own audits. In our last consecutive audits performed by Silliker, we received "Gold" ratings, the highest rank on the scale.
Since 2003, additional space has been added twice to accommodate our new growth. In 2007, Magrabar initiated a large increase in production capacity that came into full production in 2008. This investment in reactors and a new high capacity thermal fluid heating system allows us to serve a growing customer base reliably for many years to come.
Sue and Sandy's restructuring and the investments made in people, equipment and processes since 2003 have been extremely successful, increasing revenue by 80%. With all of the changes and successes over the life of Magrabar, our core goal goes back to that of the original founders – to be the preeminent manufacturer of antifoams and defoamers.
